“We had the great pleasure of working with Ollie on our new house build in 2017. Building a new home could potentially be a very stressful experience but Ollie fulfilled his promise to us and made sure the whole process ran smoothly and was actually really enjoyable.
Ollie only works on a couple of projects at a time so he is very ‘hands on’ in his approach. He was on site pretty much every day himself so we felt he was always on top of everything which gave us great reassurance.
He is a fantastic project manager and from the start he ensured that we had a very clear picture of the sequence of events. He broke everything down into bitesize pieces and helped us by outlining the priorities at each stage of the build. He held weekly site meetings where he would go through the progress over the last week and outline the schedule for the coming weeks. That way there were never any rash decisions and we were always ready for the next tradesperson coming on site.
Ollie holds himself to a very high personal standard and he expects the same from all of the tradespeople he works with. All his sub-contractors were so professional and there was great cooperation between them. The site was immaculate at all times which showed the pride they took in their work.
From a woman’s perspective the prospect of facing into a building site and dealing with builders and subcontractors could be a potentially daunting experience because I had the (rather unfair) perception that I would not be taken seriously. But I have to say, that was not the case at all with Ollie or any of his team of subcontractors. Daniel and I were both treated equally and that meant that we were both able to get stuck in and ask the questions we needed to ask without feeling foolish and it really felt like a joint project.
One of Ollie’s great skills is that he is a great innovator and problem solver. He was very good at coming up with creative solutions when working on off-standard spec elements to the house. He would always give us a number of options so that we could choose the best solution for our budget. He has a great interest and enthusiasm for what he does and that never wavered during the build. For example, at the very end of the build when we were tendering our stairs and some of the vendors were struggling to grasp the concept of the design he was like a dog with a bone and would not give up until they nailed it. At that stage we ourselves were nearly ready to concede that we wouldn’t get the design we wanted but we were so glad that Ollie persisted and we were thrilled with how it turned out.
We are so happy in our new home and the attention to detail at every stage shows now in the quality of the finishes. The build was delivered on time (slightly ahead!) and on budget – a testament to the exceptional project management and excellent communication throughout the build. It really was such an exciting time for us, watching it all come together and it was worth the effort.
We would highly recommend Ollie. We didn’t have a cross word throughout the build and we really felt he had our best interests at heart at all times.”
